Lost Sunshine Club apparel collection designed by The Newton Agency for French coastal brand Hoalen.

Hoalen is a French coastal brand founded in 2006, making long lasting apparel for people who surf, sail, paddle and fish. We designed the Lost Sunshine Club, an apparel collection built for their community and produced in the same limited runs the rest of their line is.

SITUATION

Hoalen had spent close to twenty years building something most apparel brands never get: an actual community. People who live on the coast and buy the same jacket twice because the first one lasted. A collection aimed at that group cannot be treated as a seasonal drop. It has to earn its place next to product they already trust.

DIAGNOSIS

Most collaborations solve for attention. They land loud, sell through, and leave nothing behind. That approach would have been wrong here. Hoalen builds goods designed to outlast the trend that produced them, so anything we put on a garment had to be worth wearing five years from now, and it had to feel like it belonged to the people who wear the brand rather than to us.

DECISION

Build the collection around an idea their community already lives inside instead of a graphic they might like. The Lost Sunshine Club is a name people can claim. Once that existed, the design work was simple and restrained on purpose, because the point was membership, not decoration.

WHAT WE BUILT

The Lost Sunshine Club as a collection with a name and a reason to exist. Apparel graphics designed to sit on heavyweight organic cotton and hold up through years of washing. Placement and application across the pieces so the collection reads as one thing on a rail. All of it produced inside Hoalen's own standards, in limited quantities, in certified workshops.
