SITUATION
Vissla approached Leah Marie Newton for an artist collaboration. The result was the Psychedelic Surfer's Society collection, built from her Tulum work and released across eco-shirts and upcycled boardshorts.
DIAGNOSIS
Most brand and artist collaborations fail the same way. The artwork gets sanded down until it is safe enough to sit next to the core line, and what ships is a print rather than a point of view. The collection only works if the artist's world arrives intact.
DECISION
Bring the actual Tulum work. Saturated to the edge of abstraction, taken from the Mexican Caribbean coastline rather than adapted toward it. Vissla's sustainability standards shaped the substrate, not the art.
